LATEST AIRPORT IMPROVEMENTS

On December 5, 2008, a new 80x100 multi-purpose hangar, heated with office and restroom facilities, was dedicated here at the Wood County Regional Airport.  Very soon we expect to have A & P services on the field which will be convenient for locally based aircraft and an interesting option for other around Northwest Ohio.

From the opening of our new Terminal and Pilots lounge in June 2005, to the commissioning of our AWOS system (VHF 120.725, Ph #419.354.1415), we are trying to do our part to bring you the products and services you want and need.

We have also just received another bit of news that we are very excited about.  After final approval from the FAA, the Wood County Airport is one of the few airports in Ohio to have published GPS Wide Area Augmentation System, WAAS, approaches, some with Localizer Performance with Vertical guidance, LPV capability.  These GPS WAAS IFR approaches are charted on all four runways.  If you are not familiar with these approaches, think of flying an ILS or LOC approach with your upgraded IFR GPS.  The minimums for these approaches are much lower than is available at almost any airport without ILS/LOC procedures.  You will have near precision approach capability without flying into the larger, less GA friendly airports.   I am sure your business and personal travel plans will be made much easier and safer with these approaches, and the utility with which you use your airplane will greatly improve.
